Hola everybody!
El Paso weather is insane. Which adds a fun little challenge to missionary work some days!
Last week I figured this email would start with "so it's November and still consistently in the 80"s, welcome to Texas" (and it still was in the 80's for a while) BUT on Friday we got this crazy freak hail storm that flooded like EVERYTHING in the space of a few minutes! We didn't have any set appointments, we were just going around trying to contact some potentials and investigators, so we were able to just sit in our car a wait out the worst of the storm, and when it died down a little we got back to work!
| Waiting out the storm, before we decided to run out in it |
There were a bunch of cars that got stalled in the water so we were super smart and decided to go out and try to help all of them. SO basically we waded through a lot of ice/hail water trying to push cars out of the worst of the flood spots. Luckily we're super spoiled hermanas and have a car so when we got back we just blasted the floor heat to warm up our feet again and everything was dandy!
Our investigators are doing SO GREAT! We found this super cute family of 5 that have been coming to church for the past few months, but it's been so hard to be able to find them to teach them. SO we finally were able to teach them and we're so excited to see how they progress!
And we have 2 super converted investigators that just need to get married to be able to get baptized. Valeria has a whole court thing this Wednesday and if everything goes well her baptism will be on December 17th! (which is extra awesome because that's Mom's birthday and Sydney's wedding) We fasted with her yesterday that everything will go well. We're so excited! And we had the best lesson with her this last Thursday, we just watched the little 20 min restoration video, bore our testimonies of it's truthfulness (our member that we had with us really was they key in that part. Members are essential to this work!!!) and at the end we had her pray to know for herself that this is true and then we all waited in silence. She received such a strong (and fast!) witness of the truth and she just hugged our member for a few minutes while they both cried. It was such a beautiful moment and it really strengthened my testimony of the power of this message!
And then there's Jahayra (Juh-hi-ruh), who was actually the very first investigator I taught in this area! She's been living with Oliver, who's a less-active member, and they have a super cute 2 year-old daughter Miranda. They recently have really been making steps towards marriage and their forever family and yesterday Obispo set everything up so that he'll be the one that marries them and our Relief Society sisters are so pumped to plan a wedding! We're going to finalize everything tonight but it'll for sure be before the end of November!!! And Oliver is going to be ordained to the office of a priest so that he'll have the authority to be able to baptize Jahayra <3 It's going to be so cute!!!
Those are the main highlights though. All in all it was a pretty good week!
Love you all, have a great week!
Hermana Martin
