With Christ Darkness Cannot Succeed

Hola Everyone!

This week was such a roller coaster, but a really miraculous one! I don't know how much all of you have heard, but this last Wednesday the church announced changes to our missionary daily schedule and to the key indicators that we report, that help our leaders wee what work we're doing out here. The changes were so inspired! They allow us way more flexibility in what we do each day and keep us focused on our purpose as missionaries. Basically it is a big show of trust from the Lord and we're so excited to show Him that we'll use our increased flexibility as best we can!

Elder is still doing great and is set for his baptism this Saturday! We were scared because he needed to go to church this past Sunday to be able to make it to baptism on Saturday, but right before church started he texted us saying that he was driving back from a trip and that he was still 7 hours away. We immediately ran to an empty room and all kneeled together and prayed for a miracle and we thought to suggest to Elder that he could use the church app and find a church service near him, wherever he was, and that he could go to church out there. He was so excited at the suggestion and we got a text about 2 hours later that just said "beautiful, just like home :)".

I'm so grateful that no matter where you are in the world, the church is the exact same and the Spirit will be there. I'm so grateful that we truly are led by a prophet of God so that the church can be the exact same wherever you go. This really is His church. And even though Sunday morning was way stressful, now Elder has a testimony of that as well.

We also had the most roller coaster lesson of my mission this week. Our superstar recent convert stopped answering our calls and texts this week, which is really unlike him. We decided to just go to his house and see what was going on. When we finally found him he just looked so heavy and devoid of light. As we started talking to him he said that he felt that this wasn't the right path for him any more and our hearts just dropped. After a lot of crying and listening and testifying he started opening up to us and we found out that Satan has been reminding him of all of his past transgressions and he felt like the Atonement and baptism weren't helping him and he didn't know what to do.

There was such an obvious darkness in his eyes and it honestly scared us for a little while. But as we kept taking and testifying of the Saviour's love for him and the power of the Atonement we saw the light come back little by little until he was his ond self again. He's doing great now, talked to our branch president yesterday, and he's just so happy again. It still just astounds me how real the light in people's eyes is and how awful the absence of that light is.

I never want my eyes to look the way his did when we first started talking to him that night. The gospel, and especially the Atonement, are so powerful. I've always heard people talking about seeing a light in our eyes and how we have "a light about us", but that lesson was the first time I think that I actually really saw it. The difference was undeniable, the Spirit does bring actual light into our lives!

I love this quote from one of my favorite apostles of our Saviour Jesus Christ

I love light, the light that the gospel brings into our lives and the peace and joy that comes along with it. The light of Christ is so powerful and can help us overcome the difficulties of this life. I'm so grateful for this gospel and for how it has impacted my life!

I love you all! Have a great week!

Hermana Martin

Sorry, no pictures this week! I'll do better next time!
